KAustin & Associates is a full service construction, construction management, and design build firm. Based in Houston, the firm is well known and widely respected for excellence in construction and integrity in business. Beyond construction management KAustin is part of your team.

KAustin & Associates is a general contractor and construction management organization. Our scope of work ranges from small tenant building in high rise office buildings to large scale renovations. We have built private office buildings for insurance companies, veterinarian hospitals, and fire stations. We restored The Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston after hurricane Ike and constructed the Endoscopy lab and class rooms for the Memorial Herman Hospital in Humble Texas. We have complete multiple City of Houston High Pile Storage compliance projects.

Since 2003, we have amassed a team of professional project managers, superintendents and sub contractors ranging from small to large that can provide a level of quality that our clients have come to expect.

Ken Austin

General Partner


Ken Austin has 44+ years of experience as a leader in sales, business, and management; with 15+ years being focused on Construction and Construction Management. Before forming K Austin & Associates, he performed in competitive markets acting as Regional Manager and later as VP of Construction. Ken was the President of K Austin & Associates since the company was formed in 2003. Officially in 2020, he handed the day-to-day business to Shane Johnson who became President and Partner in 2012. Ken also served as past President of the Humble Intercontinental Rotary Club and is currently involved with Kairos prison ministry.

Shane Johnson

President and General Partner


Shane Johnson joined K Austin & Associates in 2007. He brings with him extensive operation and management experience that he has developed by working for both large corporations as well as small businesses. His background includes working in the food manufacturing, wood products, pharmacy, and construction industries. In 2012, Shane was named President and Partner for the company. In 2020, he officially took over all aspects of the business. In 2017, Shane completed the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program and has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in Safety. Shane is also licensed to do business in the State of Louisiana. He maintains a strong track record since taking over the Company with a smooth transition to continue to grow client base and projects.

Tara Johnson



Tara Johnson joined K Austin & Associates in May of 2016. She has over 20 years of legal assistant and administrative experience as well as having an insurance agent license in the State of Idaho while working in the auto, home, and aircraft industries. In January, 2018 Tara stepped into the CFO role after the previous CFO retired. Tara holds a MBA in Finance from University of Houston Downtown, a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree in Management from the University of Texas at Tyler, and an Associates Degree in Legal Assistant studies from Tyler Junior College.

David Colman

Operations Manager


David Colman joined K Austin & Associates in January of 2016. David brings a wealth of knowledge with his 32 years of experience in the construction industry. David is a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, honorably discharge. Prior to joining K Austin, David was the owner of an architectural millwork installation company for 16 Years and is a Master carpenter as well as being extremely detailed oriented. David currently oversees the operations and production of all K Austin projects. We are thrilled David joined our team as he has many skills that K Austin and our clients will benefit from in his role. David enjoys horse ranching on his land in his time away from work.

Stephen Leaver

Project Manager


Stephen Leaver joined K Austin & Associates in January of 2018. Stephen has several years of experience working with Project Management, Quality Control, and Non-Destructive Testing in the commercial construction industry. We are pleased to have Stephen join our team while managing a wide variety of interior build-out and renovation projects for K Austin. Born and raised in Texas, he enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter. He is an avid outdoors man and enjoys hunting and fishing.

David Markell

Project Manager


David Markell joined K Austin & Associates in November of 2016. David has 40 plus years of experience in the construction industry serving as a site supervisor and construction manager in the residential and commercial fields, and operations manager in the industrial field. David has extensive knowledge in concrete, framing, trim, flooring, and roofing. His focus is on execution and innovation while holding schedules and budgets a top priority. David’s prior experiences also include being a journeyman carpenter and owning a framing and general contracting business. When not at work, David enjoys being an avid distance cyclist with completing 12 MS150 rides as well as a distance runner with completing multiple marathon and ultra-marathon events. He has also led a volunteer group serving monthly at the Ronald McDonald House in Houston since 2010. Through David’s volunteer work, he raises money benefiting many organizations all while putting God first. David resides in Houston with his wife, has 6 kids and 14 grandchildren with ages ranging from two to college age.
